The Beginning

The Valdosta Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi was chartered on November 11, 1983 in Valdosta ,Georgia.

During 1981, discussions began about establishing an Alumni Chapter in Valdosta, Georgia.  It was realized that there were seven members of Kappa Alpha Psi, living in the Valdosta area.  Those Brothers were David Troy, J.J. Brown, Larry Brooks, Henry Everson, Jim Meeks, Iras Dubard, and Calvin Carter. There were  three brothers who pledged at Valdosta State College, and though they lived out of town, still agreed to support the Fraternities effort.  Those Brothers were James Green, Kevin Walker, and Rupert Wiley.  The arduous task of completing the necessary paperwork required by the National Headquarters was assigned to Brother Dubard.  After completing all necessary requirements the Valdosta Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity was established in 1983.

Brother Iras Dubard served as the first Polemarch of Valdosta Alumni.  Brother Brooks, Walker, Green, and Wiley’s vision and goals were realized when they encouraged the Alumni Brothers to agree to sponsor an undergraduate line at Valdosta State College. This dream materialized when the undergraduate line “Voyager 12”, was established and initiated during the fall of 1982.  In November 1982, Province Polemarch Mel Solomon conducted the chartering of both the Valdosta Alumni Chapter, and the undergraduate chapter of Lambda Phi at Valdosta State College. The Chapter Polemarch for 2023-24 is Gregory Powell.
